History, Language & Culture Trinidad and Tobago

Indians and Africans make up nearly 80 percent of the population. The rest are mixed race, European, Chinese, and Syrian-Lebanese. Trinidad and Tobago is famous for its Carnival that takes place just before the Lenten season and is the birthplace of the Steelpan music and the capital city limbo (Port-of-Spain). It is the location of the Permanent Secretariat of the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA-ALCA).

 

The culture of Trinidad and Tobago reflects the influence of Indian, European, African, Chinese, Spanish cultures. (Hispanic or Latin) Amerindian and Arabic. The history of Trinidad and Tobago is different. There are differences in the cultural influences that shape each island.
