Later, when he won the battle and returned to the throne, he built a stone temple inside the cave at Dambulla. There are 5 caves in total, each cave is different in size. There are colorful Buddha paintings. See many stupas of Buddha carved into stone in meditation postures, enshrined throughout the caves, which consist of many rooms. The most important is inside the first cave. It is the location of the reclining Buddha statue, carved from marble, 49 meters long. Although the cave is small compared to other caves, it is big enough to comfortably hold a reclining Buddha. It looks very beautiful. Next is Cave 2, a large cave. The interior looks very unique with a pagoda that is high from the floor to the ceiling of the cave. In addition, there is a reclining Buddha and many large and small Buddha statues, dozens of them, lined up around the cave, and statues of Singhana kings. Walking further along the corridor, we will find Cave 3, 4 and 5 respectively. Each cave has more than a hundred large and small Buddha statues. What makes all 5 caves so beautiful is the mural paintings on the walls and ceilings that almost cover the entire area, which are about 800 years old. These paintings tell stories about the Lord Buddha, Buddhism, the life of the Lord Buddha, the deities of the region, and Buddhist art patterns such as lotus and jasmine flowers, which are beautifully and wonderfully colored.
