Visit the Plum Wine Factory or Umeshu Gura Oyama Factory, a famous plum wine production source in the Kyushu region. The Umeshu Gura Oyama Factory uses plums collected from farmers. The Umeshu here has won a gold medal in the "World Liquor Contest" and is so premium that it is served on the Seven Stars luxury train of JR Kyushu and also served in the business class seats of ANA. In addition to being a factory open for visits, there are also workshops to make your own plum wine and plum syrup. In addition, there is a souvenir zone with famous products of this city, especially various kinds of pickled plums. Everyone is free to visit the plum garden inside the factory. Note: Plum blossoms bloom from mid-February to early March, depending on the weather each year. It is considered the city with the most hot spring resorts. Tourists can try soaking in various kinds of hot springs. We will take you to Yufuin Village, a model OTOP village in Japan. This city is also famous for its hot springs. Inside the city is Lake Kirin. This lake is another beautiful spot for viewing the changing leaves of Yufuin Village. Yufuin Village consists of shops selling local products, fresh vegetables and fruits, and many cute handmade souvenirs. Yufuin City is located amidst nature in a beautiful green valley. Today, Yufuin City has become a popular tourist destination.
There is also a famous snack called "Croquette" (fried sweet potato with breadcrumbs), a popular food that you can eat while walking to relieve your hunger. Inside the crispy fried batter is a mixture of mashed Danshaku potatoes and minced Wagyu beef. The outside is crispy, but the inside is soft and melts in your mouth.
You will travel to Jigoku Meguri or the Eight Hells. These are natural hot springs that were formed after a volcanic eruption. They contain concentrated minerals such as sulfur, iron ore, sodium carbonate, and radium, and are too hot to bathe in. The eight hot springs are named after their scary appearances. You will find Umi Jigoku, one of the eight famous hot springs in Beppu. It is the most popular hot spring for tourists because it is less beautiful and looks like hell than the others. From the entrance, we will see white smoke billowing up through large rocks with a hissing sound all the time. When we get closer, we will feel the heat rising from beneath the earth.
Before going to see the boiling sea, we can stop by the lotus pond first. In the pond, there are lotus leaves that are so large that small children can sit in them. Umi Jigoku is a hot spring. Blue like the sea, 150 meters deep, formed after a volcanic eruption 1,200 years ago, contains cobalt minerals. White smoke billows up around the pond all the time. The water temperature is as high as 98 degrees Celsius, you can boil an egg. Although the water in this pond is too hot to bathe in, there is mineral water powder available in souvenir shops for you to dissolve in your own bath water at home. It has properties that make your skin glow and can cure skin diseases. Before leaving, don't forget to soak your feet in the hot spring under the pavilion (foot onsen). It will make your feet feel comfortable and give you the energy to walk around. It is free for tourists. You can sit and soak for as long as you want.
